You’re ready to attend a virtual career fair with Career Services, but where do you begin? Follow this guide to ensure you’re ready and set-up for success!

Before the Career Fair

Get the App

  1. Download the Career Fair Plus app to your phone.

  2. Open the app and search for Oklahoma State University.

  3. Click on one of the virtual fairs happening this fall.

    1. Browse through the list of registered employers.

    2. Favorite those you want to speak with during an appointment.

    3. Take notes on their company profile about what interests you and reminders of why you want to meet with them.

Create an Account

You will need to create an account and build your candidate profile. Make sure you build a complete profile that includes your resume as well as other relevant information. This is the profile employers will see when you make appointments to meet them, so you want to make a good first impression!

Watch the following video on how to create a student profile or download our How to Create a Student Profile step-by-step guide.

Schedule Appointments

Each employer has recruiter schedules with one-on-one video appointments that last throughout the virtual career fairs. These appointments are a replacement of the physical handshake and interaction at the in-person event.

On September 7th, all of the employer appointment schedules will open and become bookable so you can begin making your career fair schedule.

  1. Tap on the employer you are interested in speaking with and then tap on "Virtual Appointments" to see all of the schedules they have available

  2. Select the schedule you are interested in and select a time that works for you.

  3. Tap ‘Yes’ to book the appointment.

If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to sign in. If you have not yet created a student profile, you must do so at this stage in order to schedule appointments – see above

Don't forget, appointments are first-come, first-serve, so if there is an employer you want to meet with, don't wait to schedule an appointment with them!

Also, employers are registering for the virtual career fairs every day, so new appointment schedules will become available leading up to the career fairs. It’s important to check the app daily for updated information!

Update Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile

  1. Review our Resume Resource Packet.

  2. Have your resume critiqued by a Career Consultant prior to the fair.

Practice Your Elevator Pitch

This is a quick (30-60 second) but well-prepared summary of yourself.

  1. Introduce yourself

  2. What is your objective

    • To find a part-time job, internship, full-time position?

  3. Your Summary

    • Experiences, academic projects, campus involvement that are important for that company/recruiter to hear.

    • What contributions or value-add can you bring to the company?

  4. Closing Statement(s)

    • Thank them for their time!

    • Maybe end with a question to keep the conversation going.

Day Before the Career Fair

  2. Make sure you can access your virtual appointment schedule.

  3. Use this link to test the video platform and make sure you can enter your appointments.

  4. Review the Career Fair Resource Packet.

  5. If you have any technical issues with the Career Fair Plus platform, please reach out to us at careers@okstate.edu.

Day of the Career Fair

If you have accomplished all of the steps on each tab above – today should be a breeze! Follow these simple steps and we know you will succeed:

  1. Wear professional attire to the virtual career fair.

  2. Arrive early to your appointments so you can test out the technology and make sure everything is working properly.

  3. Open the Career Fair Plus app and sign into your account.

  4. Access your Virtual Appointment Schedule and meet with employers at your appointment times.

    • We highly recommend using the “Join Video Room” links found in your confirmation emails to join the appointment rooms.

  5. Use the app to keep track of when your appointments are and take notes about your conversations.

Drop-In Rooms

Not ready to commit to a one-on-one appointment? Join employers in their Drop-In Rooms during the virtual career fair! Each employer will have a Drop-In Room that can be accessed by a link in their company profile. This is a great place for you to pop-in and introduce yourself, ask quick questions about their company, and get to know the recruiters.

Links to Drop-In Rooms can be found in both the phone app and on the desktop version of the app. We suggest joining Drop-In Rooms from your desktop for a more professional appearance.

Once you have clicked on the Drop-In Room link, you will need to do the following:

  • Enter your name and click "Continue".

  • Click "Request Permissions" for access to your webcam and microphone and select "Allow".

  • Click "Join Meeting" to enter the Drop-In Room.
