Supervising
Supervisors of Student employees have the responsibility of first orienting new student employees into their department. This includes:
Also remembering that student employees are students first and employees second, make sure to keep in mind students class schedules, and schedule working hours around these accordingly.

Evaluating Students
Student evaluation is a great way to give constructive feedback and improve student skills and performance. A form to better evaluate students is included in the resource library.

Providing References
During or after a student’s employment you may be asked to provide a reference letter or be included as a reference for contact. If you decide to draft the letter be sure to have all the necessary information needed to effectively write up the document.

There may also be circumstances where you are listed as a reference contact but you were not notified. If employers do call, no matter your impression of the employee, make sure to answer the reference questions in a professional and truthful manner.

Training
Oklahoma State University Human Resources offers optional training opportunities for supervisors through Talent.okstate.edu. Through this webpage several different trainings are listed with descriptions, including the recommended Supervisor Academy.
